ClearGuide® Signal Trends Recognized for Advancing Signal Performance Monitoring

2026 ITS World Congress Industry Award recognizes Iteris innovation in applying AI and probe vehicle data to make systemwide signal performance monitoring faster and more scalable

By using anonymized probe vehicle data and AI-enhanced analytics, Signal Trends provides near real-time, intersection-level performance insights without requiring traditional detection infrastructure or controller connectivity at every intersection. The result is a way for agencies to expand visibility across their signal networks and use performance data to identify problems, prioritize improvements and measure whether timing changes are working to advance mobility.

This approach and the verified results from agency customers has earned Iteris recognition on the international ITS stage. At the 2026 ITS World Congress in Gangneung, South Korea, Iteris received the 2026 ITS World Congress Industry Award for ClearGuide® Signal Trends: AI-Enhanced Signal Performance Monitoring.

For the Iteris team, the recognition is especially significant because the innovation is not simply about applying AI to transportation data. It is about turning data into actionable insights that agencies can use to make better decisions.

Signal performance data can give agencies extraordinary insight into how an intersection or corridor is operating. But collecting that information extensively across a region has historically required supporting field infrastructure.

ClearGuide® Signal Trends is designed to remove that constraint with intentional AI.

Using anonymized probe vehicle data, ClearGuide® Signal Trends delivers performance information across entire networks, with updates every 10 to 15 minutes. Agencies can examine metrics familiar to signal practitioners, including:

  • Arrivals on Green
  • Control Delay
  • Split Failures
  • Movement-level performance
  • Before-and-after performance

AI-based Signal Anomalies add another layer by highlighting changes in conditions, helping agency teams focus attention on locations that may warrant investigation.

As agencies are monitoring more intersections, they can’t feasibly require staff to continuously search an entire network for problems. Analytics can help surface changing conditions so engineers can apply their expertise where it matters most.

With Signal Trends, agencies can use probe-based performance measures to identify emerging issues, evaluate conditions at individual movements, prioritize retiming based on observed conditions and quantify the effect of operational changes.

Here is the first of several stories directly from Iteris customers that have seen results by using ClearGuide® Signal Trends. The real-world value from mulitple agencies solidified Iteris as the recipient of the 2026 ITS World Congress Industry Award.

UDOT: Seeing the impact of signal timing at the movement level

At the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), the value of near-real-time performance information became apparent while training their staff.

Using capabilities including signal tagging, movement-level analysis and before-and-after comparisons, users identified an underperforming intersection experiencing additional detour traffic following a freeway closure.

The intersection overall experienced negative effects from the added traffic. But the data revealed something particularly useful to a signal engineer: the eastbound movement saw a significant decrease in control delay after UDOT extended green time on that approach.

Signal Trends allowed users to evaluate that improvement through metrics including control delay, Arrivals on Green and split failures.

That is where performance monitoring can become especially powerful. It does not simply indicate that an intersection has a problem. It gives practitioners another way to evaluate whether a specific operational intervention produced the intended effect.
