Iteris in Action
iHeartMedia’s Total Traffic & Weather Network
When Chicago’s commuter rail system, Metra, planned to add more trains as the city reopened post-pandemic, CBS2 Chicago spoke to Dan Ginsburg from iHeartMedia’s Total Traffic & Weather Network. He noted that traffic volume is nearly back to pre-pandemic levels, but patterns have changed. More people are traveling throughout the day, not just during rush hour, with a summertime spike. Ginsburg used data from Iteris’ TrafficCarma Mobility Trends™, which provides daily updates on traffic volume and congestion across major U.S. markets, comparing current traffic to pre-pandemic levels.
In the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, Iteris announced the addition of Covid-19 test locations to its standard data feed of traffic impact reports, including to automotive navigation services and mobile applications for customer SiriusXM.
Over 8,500 locations across the US and Canada were included at launch, to alert drivers of possible traffic impacts of testing sites. The information explains possible traffic impacts on relevant public roadways, including coordinated police activity to control vehicles entering or driving near the sites, street closures and temporary one-way restrictions.
