Iteris ClearData is Repeatedly Validated Through TETC-TDM Program

Iteris ClearData® is real-time traffic speed/flow data captured from multiple sources. It supports traffic analysis, planning, and transportation system management and operations (TSMO) applications. ClearData leverages proven machine learning models to generate historical traffic volume estimates in 15-minute, hourly, and daily aggregation options, which are available through Iteris’ traffic analytics solution ClearGuide®.

Iteris ClearData undergoes rigorous validation through the Eastern Transportation Coalition (TETC) data validation program. This independent program ensures the accuracy of traffic data sold through their Transportation Data Marketplace (TDM), including the speed data used in ClearData real-time feeds.

The TETC program uses highly reliable reference data collected using wireless re-identification traffic monitoring (WRTM) sensors along specific road segments. Vendors participating in the program provide travel time and speed data for the same road segments and time periods as the reference data. TETC then compares the vendor data with the WRTM data to identify any discrepancies.

Participation in the TETC-TDM program ensures that Iteris ClearData meets the highest standards for accuracy. This independent validation provides confidence to users that ClearData delivers a clear and dependable picture of traffic conditions. The program typically focuses on high-volume roads like freeways and major arterials, but TETC has also conducted validation studies on low-volume roads, demonstrating ClearData's effectiveness across all roadway types. The results of Iteris’ participation in the TETC-TDM data validation program consistently show ClearData to be accurate for both low- and high-volume roadways. A view of the ClearGuide Volumes map, which leverages ClearData to deliver ADT, AADT, and many other types of reports.

In October 2023, a TETC-TDM low-volume travel time study found that Iteris ClearData effectively captured congestion even on rural and low-volume roads.

In November 2023, another TETC-TDM traffic volume study compared vendor approaches. The study revealed that most vendors relied on estimates based on historical data (a top-down approach), while Iteris—the only vendor using a bottom-up strategy of directly estimating volumes for specific times—was the only company that produced meaningful hourly-level data. This finding highlights ClearData's ability to provide detailed, real-time insights into traffic patterns.
